Friday, August 5th

9:00 am -10:00 am: Getting to know each other, introduction to GCC, comments by Gabriele’s on her positive GCC experience
10:00 am -10:30 am: Coffee break with Q&A
10:30 am -12:30 pm: Why GCC? Expectations and outcome hopes
Discussion of course objectives, developing an expanded course description including GCC rationale, determining common themes and topics, discussion of teaching approaches
How to get started: Logistics including the GCC table/information Assessment methods (distribute roles of instructors)
Role of digital technology (technology workshops on Tuesday)

1:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Designing course projects to enhance the four proficiencies, expand cultural knowledge and intercultural competencies, enhance basic technological skills and digital etiquette

Overview of GLCA Crossroads Shared Languages Program: Program goals and timeline
General introduction of participants’ Arabic programs, students, number and type of courses offered, textbooks used, upcoming sabbaticals, etc.

10:15 am – 12:30 pm: Arabic programs within GLCA, pedagogies, teaching approaches, professional goals, challenges, institutional idiosyncrasies, future developments, changes in the teaching profession, …etc.

1:30 pm – 2:45 pm: Brainstorming session: complementing each other’s programs, is an expansion of the program to a minor/major feasible in the future? What does it take?
Creating a unified philosophy and pedagogy among participating institutions
